Michèle Laframboise Wins the 2026 Solaris Prize !

Michèle Laframboise, a science fiction writer based in Mississauga, ON, won the 2026 SOLARIS Award on May 7th for her science fiction short story “Emprunt en souffrance.”

The author learned the news during the recent Greater Sudbury Book Fair in May 8-10, an event she regularly attends and supports. This recognition will undoubtedly help more readers discover Franco-Ontarian science fiction.

The jury members had selected Michèle's story “for the originality of her ideas, for her energetic and determined main character, and the dynamism of the narrative, which uses light humor to address serious issues without ever downplaying them.” (translated from the official communiqué in French)

This annual short story contest includes a cash prize and publication in Solaris magazine.

Michèle Laframboise had previously won the Solaris Award in 2006 and 2010.
